A fascinating topic with Dr. Tom Baker! (Listening; Homework)

A fascinating topic with Dr. Tom Baker!                                                     (Listening;Homework)

  •            Welcome to the show and today our guest is Dr. Tom Baker author of “Lifelong Learning” and new book which is go to a lot of people talking. So tell us a bit about a book.
  •                Well, basically it is about how and when we acquire different skills in life. I discussed the skills we develop throughout our lives and how learning is a lifelong process and not just something we do between the ages of 5-18, when we receive our formal education.
  •                  I see, what sort of skills do you mean?
  •               Well, we all need wide range of skills in order to succeed in life, for example we need to learn cognitive skills to be able to develop our concentration and memory and learn how to think, so how we can begin problem solving. We also need perceptual skills, so we can interpret and present information and social skills in order to be able to relate well to other people. Then, There are all sorts of skills sub skills such as creative thinking and decision making, not to mention practical skills and work related skills.
  •                         So, how, when and where do we learn these skills?
  •             A lot of these skills we learn naturally from being in different social situations and environments. We literally pick them up without realizing. However, others we have to work hard to acquire.
  •              I see.
  •                         Cognitive skill development, for example, begins naturally in infancy, that is primarily encouraged by parents and family , but it is further developed the nursery school by caregivers with educational toys and games. And then, when we go to school or college, university and beyond, we develop these skills further.
  •                        So, educational institutions robustly very important then.
  •           Of course, everyone should receive an education that helps them develop important skills such as independent fault and judgement . They also need to be able to make their own decisions, solving their problems and show their own responsibilities. Teachers, parents and caregivers can help children to grow up with the personal resources and intellection tools they need to understand the world and behave this responsible of human being.
  •                       We are learning   all the time from all sorts of different influences.
  •                        Specifically?
  •                       Well, we develop social skills and interacting with peers, joining social groups, making friends at school, meeting and working with colleagues in the workplace and so on.
  •                        In truth we never stop learning and understanding can be developed and improved by all kinds of human experiences. Take traveling for example ,many teenagers take a gap year between Union starting work to travel and have varied and interesting experience. Other people retire somewhere warm and find themselves learning new language in a lately years.
  •                       Okay, but what about people how don’t do well in school, don’t go to university, have a boring repetitive job and don’t have the opportunity to go abroad. What opportunities do they have to learn?
  •                       Well, we all have free time all leisure activities are important learning opportunities. We can learn physical skills and artistic skills ,and practical skills at any age from the different activities we do in our free time. Most people these days have a computer and everyone can develop their IT skills and open themselves to the internet which is a huge source of information for people who want to learn anything and everything.
  •                       That’s fair enough, but what about absolutely sloth, who does nothing in their free time, except flop down in front the TV?
  •                        Hah, they can learn from the TV and radio programs, magazines, newspapers and so on. They can learn to filter and organize information, so, they find what is interesting to them among the visual and audio messages.
  •           Okay now I happen to think that the most important life skills of common sense and good judgment but these are not taught in school ,or anyway, How can someone develop these skills?
  •                       Well, these are more or less innate skills that we pick up by going through different life experience, basically learning by our mistakes so better still by the watching others mistakes and not making the same ones.
  •                       Hahah, well, it’s a fascinating topic, but I’m afraid we are out of time. “Lifelong Learning” is available now from all reading retailers. Thank you so much for coming!

Online practice. Is it good?!

                           Online practice. Is it good?!

The number of online platforms for practising is constantly increasing. In my opinion, this way of learning is the best way for practice. Also online resourses can help you to get knowledge.
For example Khan Academy, this platform is collection of videos. Videos are lectures for ten minutes or a little bit more. The creator of Khan Academy (Salman Khan) explains a principle of a subject ranging from Maths, Chemistry and Economics to History and Biology.
Firstly, I am sure that after a school day and after lessons which are full of theory online practice is the best way to refresh  all the course material that has been learnt. Moreover, student can practise during the game.
Secondly, if you're busy on your job, you can increase your level of knowledge by online platforms. You can train your brain at home! What can be better?
Some teachers don't agree with this way of learning, they think that this system can be counterproductive.
All in all, I think that this way of practice will evolve with a great speed in the future!

Topic 4. Still a mystery.

                                       Still a mystery.

More than a half of the world is still a mystery. I would love to tell you about some mysterious events and strange creatures. First of all, about UFO, just because UFO is the first idea when you think about the mystery. Thousands witness strange lights over Phoenix, Arizona. Strange wreckage and alien bodies examined at the Roswell Army Base. Everything is a big secret. On the other hand, Stephen Hawking feels sure that we are not alone in the universe. He is pretty famous in physics as a scientist.

Moreover, I can tell you about Big Foot and prehistoric animal such as dinosaur. What can I tell you about Big Foot? 80% of all accounts are ordinary animals - a few fakes, a few hoaxes. But it's that 20% of unknowns that keep cryptologists going. They want to know the truth.
A few words about dinosaur. Scientists found the Dinosaurs' DNA in bones a few years ago. That is why there is now nothing to stop us bringing back dinosaurs, whether is it a good idea or  not is another question.

One more mysterious place is Laos, where the fireballs are shooting up. The first part of believers think that the fireballs are a breath of Naga, a mythical snake in the river. The second part of believers think that this is a natural phenomenon caused by methane gas bubbles. The world is full of secrets. But you can choose side of science or side of legends.

Introduction to nouns

                                   Introduction to nouns

Of all the parts of speech, nouns are perhaps the most important. If you try to figure out what the noun is, you need to ask yourself:
  • is it a person?
  • is it a place?
  • is it a thing?
  • is it an idea?
Linguistically, a noun is a member of a large, open part of speech whose members can occur as the main word in the subject of a clause, the object of a verb, or the object of a preposition.

For example: you can see the picture of Flash.

This is Flash (noun, person)
He is a superhero (noun, thing or a person)
He is from USA (noun,place)
He has big dreams and goals (nouns, ideas)

What does it mean “Doing the right thing?” Topic 3

What does it mean “Doing the right thing?”

                                                             Topic  3
There are many ways of solving the world issues/problems. Such as recycle old materials, help the elderly, donate money to charities. Now our world is calling to make donations to a charity. You can donate money to the homeless people. Sam Browne felt sure that this is important, because he participated in the project, where he became homeless for a day. That day taught him how much homeless need our help. People need to understand needy people, for example Mitch McGregor, he spent summer helping poor kids to get an education. He learnt that no matter how bad conditionals are, there is always hope future. Many people understand all importance of charities, that is why in the world a lot of organizations or brave people, who are doing something for charities. For example Glastonbury Festival. It’s about promoting green issues, humanitarianism, and freedom of expression during musical performances. What about brave people? Ed Stafford became the first man in history, who walked entire length of the Amazon river for the charity (against deforestation)! How can we help to fight deforestation?
  • ·        Recycle paper
  • ·        Support charities
  • ·        Take part in tree-planting days.

As a result, I feel sure that we need to help protect the environment. Thank you.

A book review. Arthur and George

My rewiew of an detective story.

Arthur and George by Julian Barnes, is the most popular detective story in England... The most popular after books about Sherlock Holmes.                  The story begins with Arthur's and George's childhood. Set at the turn of the 20th  century, the story follows the separate but intersecting lives of two very different British men: a half-Indian solicitor and son of a Vicar, George Edalji, and the world-famous author of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Despite their differences they were the best team in the crime world. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used his knowledge in deduction and solicitor used his knowledge in laws. Together they saved  a typical English city from high-profile murders.
The book's fast-paced plot is guaranteed to keep readers absorbed to the very end. I thoroughly recommend "Arthur and George". It is well worth reading. If you really like Sherlock Holmes, don't miss this book, just because in this book Sir Arthur Conan Doyle  proved that the deduction in real life can save a lot of people. Heroes are not only in books... Be sure to read this book.

An Opinion Essay, Help Protect The Environment

                                      Environment

I think that all private  transport such as cars and motorcycles should be banned  in cities to help protect the environment.  I want to tell you my reasons for this opinion.
First of all, air pollution is the most important problem in such big cities like New York or Washington DC, where millions of people live their lifes. More and more scientists are trying to create a new car engine that will not pollute the environment, but  the air became worse than it was in the two thousandth.
Therefore, world needs urgent measures to prevent disaster. Firstly, when on the Earth will have no cars, air will be clearer a little bit, because it is constantly changing and mixing. Secondly, people will ride bikes, and it will lead to better health. Furthermore, I feel that a ban on private transport could be an effective way to create better towns and cities, because we will have more free place.
On the other hand, some people believe that a total ban on private transport could be a huge expenditure of time, just because on bikes we can't reach high speed, but this disadvantage can be improved, scientists can create new type of transport. It seems to me that it is not a big problem.
As a result, I feel sure that this idea is perfect for our world.

New Year Holidays

                                    New Year Holidays

I felt exhausted as I had finished one more period of my school. That is why I started my vacations with relaxing and incredible banya, after this the birds were singing happily in my world, just because I felt freedom in my soul.
After banya I was relaxing for three days in the village with my grandmother and sister. Also I was playing a lot with my lovely pets, and i am so glad that i had an opportunity to be with them without problems with time. Then i decided to go on hike near with my village with my friends and pets. There we had a funny story. During the hike weather was snowy, that is why we couldn't see anything, moreover we lost my dog in a snowdrift, we were looking for him about an hour, after that i was so sad and disappointed. I felt sure that he would never return. My friend, who was so kind shouted the name of my dog loudly, after this noise Ram heard his name and returned.
Fortunately, a couple of hours later, i was able to go home and tell my family what happened. I think that it was the brightest moment during my new year holidays.
