How to be good at English

If you're struggling with English, you're not alone. Many students hate English classes just because they can't understand this language. In my opinion, English language is not hard to learn as a second language. My experience is quite good, that is why I would like to give you some tips and tricks.

Firstly, if you want to know how to write correctly and how to deal with grammar mistakes, you need to read more. You need surround yourself with words. Reading lots of different books will not only improve your vocabulary, but it will help you with spelling.

Secondly, ask questions and ask your teacher to repeat something will not only make you a better listener, but it will also answer your questions. Moreover, try to sit near the front all the time and ask questions with good vocabulary.

All in all, you need to revise, revise, revise. Good writing means good editing. Editing happens, when you improve a piece of writing by transforming sentences.

Furthermore, to stay a responsible student, you should not miss lessons or pass notes. Also, you should not be lazy, just because lazy person can't be successful at English!

Good luck on your way of learning!

New challenge

There are people and people in the place where I live. Have you ever thought about what your city of town  is famous for? I feel sure that my city famous for rare natural disaster such as meteorite, when the ground beneath my feet is shaking and there is a deafening roar like a plane take off. Everyone in city had no idea that it was meteorite, also they had no idea that city would have to make an incredible sacrifice to make recovering of the motherland.

Not only in my city was the day when the Earth moved. The most powerful earthquake in 21 century was in Japan. It was on 11th March,2011. The force of the earthquake, the most powerful in Japan's  history, triggered a devastating tsunami. The impact of the water often destroys everything in its path.

But in my beautiful city near Ural mounatins, awful meteorite caused little earthquake. One of the pieces of  "City's Meteorite" is exhibit in the museum of local lore (Che, Russia). Moreover museum of local lore is my favorite place to stay in my city.

I really want to stay in city for a while (till the end of my studying in school) ,where the meteorite had fallen, just because it is an unforgettable story of my life in the place where I live.

Breaking news!

Do you know that day by day people destroy eco-balance, but they can't imagine their lifes without modern technologies such as cars or factories. As a result sometimes we must struggle to cope natural disasters.
For example volcanic eruptions. Just imagine this disaster. Ash and gas fly up into the atmosphere. Rocks and lava erupt out of the crater. Lava pushes through vents in the side of the volcano.
One more awful disaster is earthquake. The most powerful earthquake in 21 century was in Japan. It was on 11th March,2011. The force of the earthquake, the most powerful in Japan's  history, triggered a devastating tsunami. The impact of the water often destroys everything in its path.
Furthermore, there is one more example. Hurricanes are also devastating. Residents of the city of New Orleans had no idea that within  days, 80% of their city would be underwater in one of the worst disasters in US history.
But more and more people use to cope  these eco-problems. Like Martin Rietze. When volcano erupts, most people want to get as far away as possible, as quickly as they can! Martin on the other hand, grabs his camera and tries to get as close as he can and stay alive at the same time!
In conclusion I want to tell you that people can hope that nothing like this will ever happen in their lives and try to become more eco-friendly.

Sometimes you can meet aggresive people

Sometimes you can meet aggresive people or inadequate guys or girls. And that's is why you need to know how to deal with difficult people.
For example: gossips. The gossip might seem harmless, but when they're talking about you, it can be extremely upsetting and embarrassing. My tip is to avoid getting involved. Gossip usually dies down quickly when no one wants to listen or contribute.
Gossips are very dangerous just because they can hurt you and you will think that you're not good enough. To avoid this situation you need to stop worry about the way you look and learn to accept yourself as you are. If you feel good about yourself, the chances are other people will feel good about you too!
Sometimes it's hard to accept yourself. But it will be easier when you will be able to distinguish between lies and the truth. Here is the  way to distinguish this. It is often said that liars are unable to look you straight in the eye, that is why you need to be suspicious about what they are telling you. Moreover, most liars will have a telltale sigh on their face such as going as white as a sheet or the exact opposite - blushing. This is natural body talk.
Amusingly that not just people can give a signs, animals also have natural animal talk. Foe example, dolphins communcate with whistles, clicks and other sounds. Gorrilas stick out their tongues to show anger, dogs stretch their front legs out in front of them and lower their bodies when they want to play.

There are lots of signs, you just need to know how to catch them.

Learning does not stop and start at the classroom door

Learning does not stop and start at the classroom door. There are lots of creative tricks and unbelievable ways to keep your knowledge in top form! That is why I want to tell you about these ways.

If you want to get knowledge about yourself you and your soul, you need to go to the famous Shaolin Temple. "The monks constantly told that we would build character and learn humility through hardship and discipline and that's exactly what I experienced." said Joseph Barnes, the man who wanted to challenge himself.

What about scientific knowledge? My answer is Khan Academy. Salman Khan makes lectures on YouTube. In each video he explains a principle of a subject ranging from science and biology to history and economics. He makes a complicated topic entertaining and easy to understand through his informal chatty style.
If you're smart enough, you can try to show yourself to the world. One of the ways to do it is win The Duke of Edinburgh's award. Participants can proogress through three levels of the D of E, the bronze, the silver and the gold. It's definetely not easy to achieve any of these awards. Second way to show yourself is to become an inventor and help the world. Shining example is William Kamkuamba, who built a windmill in his town and helped people. At the moment William is studying at a foreign university.
So, now you can realze that life is learning. The most important part of learning is your memory. I can give you pieces of advice.

  • You can start thinking in pictures
  • You can make word association
  • You can use visualisation technigue called "loci"
Good luck on your way of learning! Thank you.

An Article describing a person (Miss Oksana)

Miss Oksana is my teacher. She is science teacher. She started teach me 2 years ago.
Miss Oksana is in her early thirties and attractive. She's tall and she has a brown eyes that sparkle when she laughs. She often wears her hair in a ponytail. She also has a great sense of style and always look well-dressed, whether it's in a school dress or an evening finery.
My teacher has an incredible personality. She is both cheerful and considerate. However, she is sometimes stubborn.  She speaks in a loud voice and she constantly uses her hands when she speaks.
Science teacher is a greatly ambitious person. She has achieved her goal of working in school "7 keys" and she is highly repected as a head teacher. She is very dedicated to her job and often works late. Despite this, she always has time for other people (if it's not an accreditation time :). She never refuses to help if there is a problem with information about  Chemistry or Biology.
All in all, Miss Oksana is an enthusiastic teacher. I really like her as a teacher, just because she explains information in a great way. I'm sure I can know everything well because of her.

A fascinating topic with Dr. Tom Baker! (Listening; Homework)

A fascinating topic with Dr. Tom Baker!                                                     (Listening;Homework)

  •            Welcome to the show and today our guest is Dr. Tom Baker author of “Lifelong Learning” and new book which is go to a lot of people talking. So tell us a bit about a book.
  •                Well, basically it is about how and when we acquire different skills in life. I discussed the skills we develop throughout our lives and how learning is a lifelong process and not just something we do between the ages of 5-18, when we receive our formal education.
  •                  I see, what sort of skills do you mean?
  •               Well, we all need wide range of skills in order to succeed in life, for example we need to learn cognitive skills to be able to develop our concentration and memory and learn how to think, so how we can begin problem solving. We also need perceptual skills, so we can interpret and present information and social skills in order to be able to relate well to other people. Then, There are all sorts of skills sub skills such as creative thinking and decision making, not to mention practical skills and work related skills.
  •                         So, how, when and where do we learn these skills?
  •             A lot of these skills we learn naturally from being in different social situations and environments. We literally pick them up without realizing. However, others we have to work hard to acquire.
  •              I see.
  •                         Cognitive skill development, for example, begins naturally in infancy, that is primarily encouraged by parents and family , but it is further developed the nursery school by caregivers with educational toys and games. And then, when we go to school or college, university and beyond, we develop these skills further.
  •                        So, educational institutions robustly very important then.
  •           Of course, everyone should receive an education that helps them develop important skills such as independent fault and judgement . They also need to be able to make their own decisions, solving their problems and show their own responsibilities. Teachers, parents and caregivers can help children to grow up with the personal resources and intellection tools they need to understand the world and behave this responsible of human being.
  •                       We are learning   all the time from all sorts of different influences.
  •                        Specifically?
  •                       Well, we develop social skills and interacting with peers, joining social groups, making friends at school, meeting and working with colleagues in the workplace and so on.
  •                        In truth we never stop learning and understanding can be developed and improved by all kinds of human experiences. Take traveling for example ,many teenagers take a gap year between Union starting work to travel and have varied and interesting experience. Other people retire somewhere warm and find themselves learning new language in a lately years.
  •                       Okay, but what about people how don’t do well in school, don’t go to university, have a boring repetitive job and don’t have the opportunity to go abroad. What opportunities do they have to learn?
  •                       Well, we all have free time all leisure activities are important learning opportunities. We can learn physical skills and artistic skills ,and practical skills at any age from the different activities we do in our free time. Most people these days have a computer and everyone can develop their IT skills and open themselves to the internet which is a huge source of information for people who want to learn anything and everything.
  •                       That’s fair enough, but what about absolutely sloth, who does nothing in their free time, except flop down in front the TV?
  •                        Hah, they can learn from the TV and radio programs, magazines, newspapers and so on. They can learn to filter and organize information, so, they find what is interesting to them among the visual and audio messages.
  •           Okay now I happen to think that the most important life skills of common sense and good judgment but these are not taught in school ,or anyway, How can someone develop these skills?
  •                       Well, these are more or less innate skills that we pick up by going through different life experience, basically learning by our mistakes so better still by the watching others mistakes and not making the same ones.
  •                       Hahah, well, it’s a fascinating topic, but I’m afraid we are out of time. “Lifelong Learning” is available now from all reading retailers. Thank you so much for coming!

Online practice. Is it good?!

                           Online practice. Is it good?!

The number of online platforms for practising is constantly increasing. In my opinion, this way of learning is the best way for practice. Also online resourses can help you to get knowledge.
For example Khan Academy, this platform is collection of videos. Videos are lectures for ten minutes or a little bit more. The creator of Khan Academy (Salman Khan) explains a principle of a subject ranging from Maths, Chemistry and Economics to History and Biology.
Firstly, I am sure that after a school day and after lessons which are full of theory online practice is the best way to refresh  all the course material that has been learnt. Moreover, student can practise during the game.
Secondly, if you're busy on your job, you can increase your level of knowledge by online platforms. You can train your brain at home! What can be better?
Some teachers don't agree with this way of learning, they think that this system can be counterproductive.
All in all, I think that this way of practice will evolve with a great speed in the future!

Topic 4. Still a mystery.

                                       Still a mystery.

More than a half of the world is still a mystery. I would love to tell you about some mysterious events and strange creatures. First of all, about UFO, just because UFO is the first idea when you think about the mystery. Thousands witness strange lights over Phoenix, Arizona. Strange wreckage and alien bodies examined at the Roswell Army Base. Everything is a big secret. On the other hand, Stephen Hawking feels sure that we are not alone in the universe. He is pretty famous in physics as a scientist.

Moreover, I can tell you about Big Foot and prehistoric animal such as dinosaur. What can I tell you about Big Foot? 80% of all accounts are ordinary animals - a few fakes, a few hoaxes. But it's that 20% of unknowns that keep cryptologists going. They want to know the truth.
A few words about dinosaur. Scientists found the Dinosaurs' DNA in bones a few years ago. That is why there is now nothing to stop us bringing back dinosaurs, whether is it a good idea or  not is another question.

One more mysterious place is Laos, where the fireballs are shooting up. The first part of believers think that the fireballs are a breath of Naga, a mythical snake in the river. The second part of believers think that this is a natural phenomenon caused by methane gas bubbles. The world is full of secrets. But you can choose side of science or side of legends.

Introduction to nouns

                                   Introduction to nouns

Of all the parts of speech, nouns are perhaps the most important. If you try to figure out what the noun is, you need to ask yourself:
  • is it a person?
  • is it a place?
  • is it a thing?
  • is it an idea?
Linguistically, a noun is a member of a large, open part of speech whose members can occur as the main word in the subject of a clause, the object of a verb, or the object of a preposition.

For example: you can see the picture of Flash.

This is Flash (noun, person)
He is a superhero (noun, thing or a person)
He is from USA (noun,place)
He has big dreams and goals (nouns, ideas)
