It's hard to believe that there was a
period in the World's history when women weren't valued for who they are. In
1977 a group of photographers took photos of women, who stood out. They were
strong, confident in their own body, and, furthermore, it was an awakening -
women shedding the cultural restrictions of their childhoods and embracing
their full humanity.
A few decades later, women revisit those
photos of them, sharing their story and thoughts. Life might be tremendously
complicated if you need to fight for basic rights - birth control, equality,
equal pay, and equal opportunities. If only people didn't force assumptions and
judgment on each other... Life could be much easier.
Feminists, known worldwide, such as Jane
Fonda, Gloria Steinem, Lily Tomlin, and Judy Chicago share their stories
in the movie. Stories that are capable of breaking your heart, because they're
filled with injustice, outrageous situations, and, worst of all, the truth of
those times. Stories about illegal abortions followed by a near-death state.
Stories about meetings, skirmishes with the government, and judgemental
society.
This movie is able to touch you deep
inside. It's very easy to take rights for granted. However, this movie shows
that everything we have now was fought for in the past. That's something that
shifts your mind. Those ladies are heroes, in the brightest meaning of this
word. I'm immensely grateful for them standing out then. Moreover, I'm
ready to stand for what I believe in too.
Watch "Feminists: What Were They
Thinking?" to gain the courage to not be afraid to fight for what's
right.
